The MEGA HUGE List of Teacher-Tested Tips

Alright. I am going to try something ambitious and I need your help to do it.

Are you on board? Great!

I want to put together the Motherload of All Teaching Tips right here on YTA. My goal is to create one page where teachers can visit and find a treasure trove of free teacher-tested tips that will help their classrooms become successful. We're all in this together, right? ...So let's share our secrets so ALL of our students can benefit :)

...one more thing? Would you mind pinning one of the pictures on this post so we can get as many teachers as possible to post tips? The more, the merrier!

So here's what I need you to do: Submit your very best tip (or tips) in the comments below. YTA's readers are primarily Pre-K through 8th grade, so please keep that in mind when choosing a tip to submit. You can leave your name or keep it anonymous- that's up to you.

Need an idea for where to start? Here are some categories to get your wheels turning:
  • classroom organization
  • classroom management
  • fun lesson idea
  • parent-communication tips
  • decorating ideas
  • fun, seasonal activities
  • back-to-school ideas
If you have a teaching blog or site, please share the link along with your tip. I will be sharing these tips with my readers and I will give a shout-out to your site if you provide a link!

Thank you so much for helping me out with this!

So....

What's your best teacher-tested tip?

  1. I color code EVERYTHING! Because I teach multiple classes, I make each class have the same color folders, notebooks, name cards...pretty much everything. If you teach one class with multiple subjects, I would recommend assigning a color for each subject you teach.

  2. For the VERY little ones, get a jump rope and tie one ring (the large kind, like you play with in the pool) every foot down the row. When you go on field trips or even just down the hall, have each child hold onto one ring. This keeps my kids in line every time!

  3. if you have a smartboard use the interractive name generayor app for group discussions. keeos them on their toes and accountable. also it has an option for randomly assigning groups. never take idk for an answer, tell them you will come back to them and that they have one minute. acxountability is key!

  4. Role playing while you teach the beginning of the year rules and procedures plays a huge impact on student understanding and quick learning! Also letting the students "help" you come up with your classroom rules/procedures gives them ownership and makes for a good year!

  5. If I have a rowdy class before break I set a minimum work requirement. When they achieve this, they get a stamp in their book. When the bell goes they must show me the stamp as they walk through the door. That way I don't have to remember whose books I've stamped. They have to bring all of their equipment with them so they can't pass their books back to others. If your room has two exits, remember to lock the other door!
