I love this quote. It's so true that teachers today are more than just academic instructors....they are in the unique position of a huge influencer in a child's life. Next to their parents or guardians, a child spends more time in the presence of his or her teacher than anyone else.
I think this quote is a lovely reminder that, while facts and academic skills are important, instilling character in our students is a worthy goal. These are the lessons that will positively impact the kids who come through your classroom well beyond the single year you have them.
One little way to start displaying and practicing positive character traits with your class is through starting a Random Acts of Kindness Club.
