Before and After: Updated Desk Chair

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Okay folks, I'll be honest here. Every time I write one of these before and after posts, I get a tad bit jealous of all those teachers out there who are still in the classroom and have a room they can do some diy magic in. However, with this before and after, I am thinking that I might get a chance to do my own little chair makeover here at home. I have a kid-sized rocking chair that just might fit the bill.

Anyhoo....

Here's the pic for your enjoyment:

    Before....                                      and after....

Isn't is amazing what a coat of paint and a bit of fabric can do? I always thought that recovering chairs would be hard until I actually did the seats of my dining room set. Time consuming? Yes. Hard? No.

Here's a good tutorial on how to recover wooden chairs, in case you also have one of these rolling around your classroom.

It's Your Turn: Have you ever done any chair remodels for your classroom...or home?

Before & After: Adding Color Without Painting

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Yolanda Morris runs a youth program in the Chicago area that serves over 150 kids. The folks over at Land of Nod heard about her program and her passion for youth in her neighborhood and decided to help her out with a little classroom makeover.

I love how they took a completely blah room and gave it a bright and cheerful look....without having to change the wall color. Most of us are in the same boat with our classroom. We can't paint the walls, but we can take a few tips for the Land of Nod folks and insert color in a few fun ways:
  • a collection of bright area rugs
  • solid colored seating options
  • simple paper garland strung across the ceiling (check out this tutorial to learn how to make your own)
  • Large, graphic posters on the wall.

Do you have any good ideas for adding color to your classroom when you can't paint the walls or furniture?

Before and After: Pegboard Storage Wall

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Last time on "Before and After," we visited Mrs. C's room from Classroom Simple and saw her super cute reading corner. Today, I'd like to take a little stroll over to a different part of the room and just stand there with my jaw-dropped and gaze at the sheer awesomeness of this simple organizing idea:

That pegboard wall. I mean seriously, that pegboard wall. From where I am sitting right now, I can already see about five different places I could use one of these wonders. It's their versatility that I lurve. Over the years, you can switch around the hooks, baskets, (they even have shelves you can hook in those little holes, people!) and instantly have a storage system that is flexible enough to adapt to your changing classroom. *Sigh* I have long been in love with perfectly practical organizational solutions.

Before and After: Reading Corner

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Mrs. C from Classroom Simple was the lucky recipient of an 'intervention classroom makeover!' Her room was cluttered and disorganized and in SUPER need of a redo.

What's not to love about this amazing 'after' room? It has a color-scheme, good flow, and a TON of smart organizing ideas. But my favorite, my VERY favorite part of the room is this little corner:

{via}

First of all, the frugal-ista in me is loving the way they used recycled pallets to make the benches. The cushions are slip-covered for easy washing ('cuz you know how disgusting they will be four months from now!) and the vinyl wall decals are easily removable. Plus, that little lamp is a homey touch to this corner. While many of us probably couldn't install a hanging swing in our room, the rest of the corner is veddy doable. I bet her students can't wait to grab a book to read when they have such a comfy place to sit!

Before & After: Small Group Table

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Sophie from A Day in the Life of Miss Krantz took a run-of-the-mill small group table and made it into an inviting focal point in her room:

After:

I love how even her chair has gotten in on the super-comfy action too! Another thing I love....the color-coordinating table and bulletin board. This would work perfectly if you had a polka dot classroom theme!

Before & After: Teacher Toolbox

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Ashley from Mathastrophe took a desktop organizer (like this one) from simply functional to simply fan-tab-ulous!

After:

I love how this not only made it more appealing to eye, but also completely easier to use. Now it's a cinch to figure out which drawer an item is in!

Before & After: Create a Display Area

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Jodi from Clutter-Free Classroom found an easy and inexpensive solution to the big blank space over her white board:

I love how she used colored duct tape to make the area coordinate with her room's color scheme. I also love that she used items that are easily found in any Walmart or school supply store- so they should be accessible to just about everyone!

Here's a snapshot of the way she created this extra display area:

Before and After: Color Coordinating

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Kelly from Teaching Fourth used a cohesive color scheme (and a lot of paint!) to take her room to the next level. While most of us can't paint our rooms, we can raid the dollar store for every green and orange container they have! We can also 'paint' the back of our shelves by putting up in contact paper or poster board. Another option would be to cover cardboard with your favorite fabric or paint color and use poster adhesive or masking tape to hang it up.

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Jennifer from Empowering Little Learners went from dungeon to darling in her whole classroom makeover. My favorite part is how she even put a little plant centerpiece on each table. It's the small things, folks.

Before and After: Decorating with an ActivBoard

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:
"Oh, I could SO do that too!"
Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Ms. Simoneuax over at First Grade Fresh was lucky enough to get an ActivBoard installed in her room. As lovely as they are, they weren't created to blend into a super cute classroom. Something had to be done! I love how she incorporated such a large piece of equipment and gave it an almost 'built-in' look by placing the bookshelves below it.

Before and After: Simple and Clean

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:
"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Emer from A Crucial Week is an Irish teacher who is currently teaching in Italy...which pretty much makes her to the coolest person I know (or wish I knew!). Apparently they make classrooms long and narrow in Italy, but that didn't deter our globe-trotting teacher. Her classroom is an example of how keeping things bright and simple can go a long way.

Before and After: Colorful Redo

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:
"Oh, I could SO do that too!"
Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Starburcks, Standards, and Sharpies brought fresh color to her drab classroom. I love how she thought out of the box: she placed the curtains lower where you can actually see them, she created bulletin boards where there weren't any...just 'cuz, and she use a zillion bin to get super organized. I l.o.v.e. bins! Here's some similar ones here and here on Amazon if you a bin-fanatic like me ;)

And on a side note: those bins would seem to be the answer to this puzzling problem I have with my countertops. They just ALWAYS seem to have piles on them. Hmm, now how do you think that happens?..... ;)

Before and After: Painted Cabinets

I love love LOVE seeing before and after pictures. And without an exception, every time I see one, I have this thought:

"Oh, I could SO do that too!"

Yeah...we all know how that turns out. But that won't stop me from enjoying some great classroom makeover pictures and sharing them with you!

Heather from The Lovely Cupboard got super creative with her old, plain cabinets. She obviously works in a school that allows painting. For those of you who can't paint your cabinets, I would suggest using contact paper and sharpie markers instead.
